The Winter Warmer 5play

•December 9, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Huddle up, give hugs, big bear hugs, be close, stay close, keep warm – keep winter warm with this week’s 5play.

Peace and love to all Emeson friends &  followers on Facebook, Twitter and Myspace and of course right here.

I’m working hard in the studio with The One and also on some solo material, so keep checking back for more news.

The festives are upon us and there’ll be a nice 10play selection for the holiday period. :)

For now, enjoy the 5play, keep each other safe and keep winter warm

Love, Em.

Wow! What a fantastic evening that was at Cargo on Friday. First and foremost, big love and respect to all fans, followers and newbies of the The One who came down from all areas to support, jig up and listen to our sound.

Special thanks to the promoters of AIFB and Cargo for showing us love and making us feel welcome.

I must not forget the other bands who came to play and were equally fierce.

Von Haze, Crimea x, Mirrors, Knifeworld, Old Romantic Killer Band – STAND UP!!!

Nice to see old friends and make some new ones – VIVA LA FRANCE & ICELANDERS IN THE H-H-HOUSE! You know who you are and why :)

Emeson’s YouTube Five Play

•October 23, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Emeson picks 5 tracks on YouTube this week that bring back, hold on to and introduce, good memories.

1. Hank Ballard – From the Left Side.

Kicking off with an intro clip of pure funk from the JB stable. Hank Ballard performs on the famous Soul Train stage.

2. Bill Summers – Brazilian Skies

Summer may have hotfooted out the door awhile ago, but let’s hold on to each other, look to the skies and party with this beautiful ray of sunshine.

3. Tom Browne – Bygones

Well known on funky floors worldwide for the supreme ‘Funkin’ For Jamaica’, check the funk flow on this stepper from Tom’s ‘Yours Truly’ set.

4. The Stylistics – People Make The World Go Round.

A wonderful song from my youth. Poignant lyrics from an amazing group.

5. Dazz Band – Keep It Live [On the K.I.L]

One for a funky weekend. Big jammers the Dazz Band slapped every floor and every face whenever this came  on. Big tune from a seriously talented group.

Peace and blessings to you and yours.

Keep loving, it may be all we have left.

Shunted Growth – 10th Oct

•October 16, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Big thanks to all fans and  new ones who came to see The One and  represented  in fine voice at Shunt on Sat 10th Oct

As mentioned before, we had to cancel the X-Ray Vision gig due to yours truly being very ill.

It seemes I’d  contracted a nasty chest infection which commenced with a loss of voice, ultimately leaving me with the reflexes of a tortoise wearing trainers.

I  was a little apprehensive on the night but my vocals held out as  best as could be expected given the circumstances. I hope I wasn’t too croaky :)

A special thank you also to Brainlove, Shunt, Joe, Sam, Curtis, Denise and the snap happy people.

Peace and blessings,

Emeson.

5 Records – Music of my life

•September 24, 2009 • Leave a Comment

5 Records – Music of my Life

1. Too High – Stevie Wonder

A golden period for music in my personal opinion, with concept albums, inner visions and musical freedom.

Every track on this album is groundbreaking.

2. Holding You, Loving You – Don Blackman

Beautiful soul music should sound like this. Thoughful lyrics, great vocals and a relentless bassline that just won’t leave you alone.

3. Welcome to the Terrordome – Public Enemy

Nobody was doing what they were doing at the time they were doing it and with such ferocity.

Intelligent hip-hop.

 Public_Enemy_-_Fear_Of_A_Black_Planet

4.Computer Love – Kraftwerk

Efficient innovators of the highest order. Enough said.

5. Your Daddy Loves You – Gil Scott Heron

So simple,  so nice.

BohoSoho@Lvpo CD Tracklistings

•September 7, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Many many thanks to all who made it down to Boho Soho @ Lvpo and unlocked the sheer funk in your trunk!

A great vibe created by one and all and I was truly impressed, especially with the ‘Chicago Style Steppers’ who demanded three rewinds of Cheryl Lynn’s ‘Encore’ (who am I to argue?:) Brilliant.

A funky nod and soulful hello to the emeson Twitter followers who turned up and made their voices heard with a steady stream of requests of which I hope I was able  to cater for at least 80% of them. True Funky Twitters.lol

If you were around at the end then you may well have picked up one of three free complimentary CD’s  compiled by yours truly!

The CD’s were Makes You Wanna – (funk & soul from the eighties era), Payin’ Dues’ (seventies soul, jazz and fusion) and FFward Thinking (trendsetting forward thinking musicians)

All tracks and artists are embedded in the cds or listed on the cover, but for those of you who may have picked up cds without a cover, here are the tracklistings below. I hope you enjoy the cds as much as I enjoyed the evening.

Peace and blessings,

Em.
